The music in a
traditional club can set the mood
for the entire night. If it's all
too similar, the music blends into
itself and gets lost, causing the
room to become boring. But if the DJ
throws an effective change-up in
somewhere, people take notice and a
somber room can become a massive
party. Anyone can say they're a DJ
and play records. But to be an
effective music programmer, you've
got to be pretty astute.
Star dj's consider the desired
clientele the owners and managers
are targeting. While keeping this in
mind, we know what kinds of music
(genre, artists and songs) this
target clientele would desire. We
have a keen eye to determine which
songs are working (watching for lip
syncing, foot tapping,
etc.). |

You've got to
have impeccable timing, knowing when
to play what, guessing the
"blood-alcohol allowance" and
knowing when to change gears to
create
excitement. And we have the
confidence to try something way
different and ride it out if it
doesn't work. It's a stressful job,
especially when you've got a drunken
slob yelling because you didn't play
that Led Zeppelin song in a dance
club.
But it can be rewarding when
you're pushing that edge, hearing
people scream when we spin a certain
song that no one expected......
It's
the music they'll remember!!!
